Happy Father's Day
Thankfully, I am a son. Dads and sons share...an interesting relationship in most cases. Sure, there are normal problems, stuff happens, and people don't get along...
I got lucky I suppose. I got a dad who's worked from nothing to be a something. He has a great marriage with my mom. He's got three sons, who have attended and done well in school. He has everything he has ever wanted in life, including expensive and silly hobbies. The guy has done real well for himself.
So....that makes it an absolute pain to try and buy this guy presents. Seriously. His birthday is 2 days away from Father's Day. Makes it even harder. Decided this year I was going to buy him some cigars. Picked some nice ones, an Arturo Fuente Hemingway Rubusto as well as a Havana Colorado Robusto. One cigar for his birthday and one for Father's Day.
So far, we've all had lunch at an upscale burger joint (It's called Blanc...and its one of those "hip" places that tries to do regular food on a high note http://www.blancburgers.com/, it's not bad at all, hope they expand.) He's lounging at the pool right now, and tonight I'm doing filets and veggies in my normal "wannabe chef" style.
Why does this matter? Because it's Father's Day. It's one of those days for card companies (didn't give those guys the satisfaction this year eh?)
Thanks for everything Dad. I do appreciate the support, no matter how non-chalant you are most of the time. Trust me...Mom makes up for it...
To all the guys on the team who are fathers, your sons and daughters appreciate you. To those of us who are sons, call your dad up, go up to him, and remember to thank him for being around. We should all be so lucky to have our dad's around when we need them. (how else am I going to get the free occasional cigar and bottle of wine ;))
