We Remember

Memorial Day,

to many, it is the day that represents a good day on the grill and getting a day off from work.

I got to spend the day with one of our members, SABRE 04, he happens to be an 11C in the US Army, and assigned to the 101st.  He recently returned from his deployment over in Afghanistan, serving alongside other forces, working to do his job.  Talking with Zac was interesting, it was like he was home and had never left.  Sure, there was still that feeling...like he was different.  Perhaps it was just the idea that he had been over there, but this was a close friend who had been there, part of the action.  It was humbling.  One of my best friends, it was an interesting feeling to say the least.  Memorial Day may not mean much to most of the citizens here in our great country, but we need to change that.  Thankfully, we live in a country that supports our servicemen.  Even if they hate the war going on, even if they do not choose to understand the endevor, they continue to support these guys who serve the Constitution.  There is simply not enough respect given to these guys, and I believe that needs to be reconsidered, the meaning as almost certainly been lost.

This is a day that remembers those who have fought for this country.  We remember those who fought for our independence.  We remember those who defended against the British in 1812.  We remember those who fought in the Quasi-War, the Barbary engagements, The Mexican-American War, The Spanish American War, The intervention in the Russian Civil War, World War 1, World War 2, Lebanon, Korea, Vietnam, The Gulf War and the current engagements in Iraq and Afghanistan.

We can never forget the hundreds of undeclared engagements that our men and women have engaged in during these years of the United States of America.  This is a day we remember those who have answered that call.  To those on the team who are in the service, and to every other member of the armed forces.

Thank You.
