started at 9am when i got to the airport and there was a thick layer of fog and the visibility was less than a mile. so me and my buddy Jeff just waited around waiting for it to clear, kept checking the weather. everywhere was clear and 10+ miles vis, except Boston and the surrounding 10 miles. Ridiculous , i've never seen anything like it. So after about two and a half hours it finally clears up and the IFR beacon on the control tower went out. Me and Jeff are only VFR rated so we couldn't take off until there was at least 3 miles visibility. so...we took off and headed west. right after we took off we hit the fog bank sitting over boston, clouds at 400 feet. after we got out of that we ran into clouds at 4500ft, we descended to stay within VFR limits (500 feet below the lowest layer of Overcast or Broken clouds)
once we got like 20 miles out everything cleared and it was a beautiful day. here are the pictures i took (ill tell you what happens when we get back after haha)

North Adams is an uncontrolled airstrip hidden within the hills of Western Massachusetts. Its beautiful. Once you come over those hills you almost have to dive down to get to the airport, its surrounded by mountains. I was listening to the Unicom Frequency listening to people in the traffic pattern. then some dude comes outside with a little hand held radio and just started doing ATC for us haha, it reminded me of what we do, you guys would have appreciated it. He was giving people clearances and stuff haha. After we landed we got out and stretched, grabbed a drink and then it was my turn to fly the return leg

so everything was beautiful on the way home...remember that area 10 miles around boston?....yeah.....have to go through it....again. woo
except now the fog bank has moved to within one mile south of Bevery Airport and there are scattered clouds at 200 feet, mist, and 3 1/2 miles visibility. hit it like a freaking WALL. all of a sudden it was just like flying in milk. When i was about 5 miles out i started franticly searching for my airport. nothing...just gray gray gray gray. i knew vis was about 3 miles so all of a sudden i saw the lake right infront of runway 16...YESSS!!! i told Boston Approach that i had Beverly in sight, they handed me off to tower and tower cleared me to land runway 16...thank god haha. i had the approach set up just incase i ran into REAL trouble, im not rated but i coulda and woulda done it. despite the amount of paper work id have to fill out for flying VFR into IMC (instrument meteorological conditions)

about a mile out...before this i couldn't see a thing and wasn't taking pictures because i had a lot on my plate
![[Image: DSCF8071.jpg]](http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y237/sufipaul/DSCF8071.jpg)
if that had moved in i would have had to divert to Lawrence or Bedford AFB and wait it out for who knows how long. all in all it was an awesome flight and im glad we made the call to go. i got alot of experience and confidence in flying in bad weather
