They had a similar occourance with a C-130 in the seventies. They were able to salvage it mostly intact right around 2001. (if I remember correctly) nice article Junkers!

They had this plane at National Blue Beret in '08, when I was there. I got to go up to it, touch it, talk to the pilot, and watched it do a fly-by with an F-22 in the Heritage flight.

I just read this entire article, and I have to say, WOW. First off, it's amazing how that team of people were able to form a cavern underneath almost 270 ft of ice. And I find it amazing the P-38 was still salvageable after 46 years of being under the ice? Not to mention 9 years later it was restored and flew again...Fucking awesome. Nice find Junkers.
